Openwave Agrees to Buy SignalSoft

Openwave Systems Inc., whose software lets mobile-phone users access the Internet, agreed to buy SignalSoft Corp. for $59 million in cash to add programs for finding other phone users.

Openwave will pay $2.26 a share, more than double SignalSoft’s closing price.

SignalSoft’s software lets phones display the location of friends or co-workers, find businesses such as stores or theaters, and help emergency services locate a caller needing assistance.
