Australia considers R rating for CDs

Share

The Australian record industry has proposed new rules that would prevent the sale of some CDs to anyone younger than 18. Advocates say it would be similar to the R rating used on movies, BBC News reports.

“We think if there are CDs that are truly R rated in content, then they shouldn’t be sold to under-18-year-olds,” said Stephen Peach, chief executive officer of the Australian Record Industry Assn. “It’s just simply applying community standards that apply already to film, television, videos and video games.”

The proposed guidelines would take effect in March.
