Pageant Officials Sweat Over Abstinence Idea

From Times Wire Reports

There’s nothing like a controversy about sex to get them worked up at Miss America Pageant headquarters in Atlantic City, N.J. But the latest furor has to do with not having sex.

Miss America Erika Harold wants to promote abstinence during her year’s reign, to the chagrin of the pageant.

Harold, 22, of Urbana, Ill., was a well-known abstinence advocate before she won the Miss Illinois title. But like all Miss Illinois contestants, she signed a contract agreeing to adopt a youth violence platform if she advanced to Miss America.
