Official Calls for Death of Article’s Author
From Times Wire Reports
The deputy governor of a largely Islamic state in northern Nigeria called on Muslims to kill the woman who wrote a newspaper article about the Miss World beauty pageant that sparked deadly religious riots.
“Just like the blasphemous Indian writer Salman Rushdie, the blood of Isioma Daniel can be shed,” Zamfara Deputy Gov. Mahamoud Shinkafi said.
Editors at ThisDay, which published the article, said Daniel had resigned and fled to the U.S. The paper has apologized for printing the article.
