From Times Wire Reports

Nepal’s king fired the prime minister and disbanded his Cabinet. It was the first time since the end of the absolute monarchy in 1990 that a Nepalese king has ousted an elected government and its leader.

King Gyanendra’s radio announcement came a day after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba asked the monarch to postpone parliamentary elections because of concerns about rebel attacks.

The king called Deuba incompetent and said he was postponing the Nov. 13 elections and would temporarily hold executive powers. He said a caretaker government and elections would come soon.
