Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee renewed his verbal attack on Pakistan, accusing the military regime of failing to honor its pledge to end cross-border terrorism. Vajpayee also said Pakistan had backed attempts to sabotage elections in the disputed Kashmir region.

“Terrorism and dialogue cannot go together,” he told the Financial Times newspaper in an interview. “The overwhelming sentiment in India is that no meaningful dialogue can be held until Pakistan abandons the use of terrorism.”

India has fought two of its three wars with Pakistan over Kashmir.
