Air-Conditioning System Close to Completion
Astronauts aboard space shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station got to see the results of their handiwork, as new radiators swung back and forth on a rotating beam.
But the main event -- the unfolding of one of the three exterior space station radiators -- was put off until today. According to mission officials in Cape Canaveral, Fla., an electrical sensor apparently was too sensitive, and engineers needed extra time to reset the cutoff point for a potential short circuit. The air-conditioning system is part of the $390-million girder installed by Atlantis’ crew.
