Give Bratton a Chance

Share

I am puzzled to understand why The Times’ writers like Steve Lopez and Frank del Olmo are so brutal with their columns on incoming LAPD Chief William Bratton -- unless they want him to fail. The headline for Del Olmo’s Oct. 13 commentary, “Listen Up When Latinos Speak, Chief Bratton,” could be construed as a veiled threat: Do as we say, or else.

To attack someone without giving him a chance is an abuse of power and is not what our society is about, or is it? Further, any officers, Latino or otherwise, who tell themselves that a promotion isn’t worth the hassle do not have the tenacity required of lead officers and should stay where they are.
