Teamsters End 3-Year Strike at Overnite

Share

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters ended a faltering strike against trucking company Overnite Transportation, three years after union President James P. Hoffa called the action, saying he wanted to restore his father’s “greatest legacy.”

The union blamed illegal company tactics and weak enforcement of federal labor laws for the strike’s failure to achieve a greater union presence in the firm.

The union organized 26 of 170 terminals at the start of an aggressive national organizing campaign, but the company never signed a contract.
