Firm Has Given Thousands to Elected Officials

The Entertainment Industry Development Corp. has given campaign contributions ranging from a few hundred dollars to more than $20,000 to 19 elected officials who have served on its board of directors. An additional five elected officials who have been EIDC board members have received contributions from top agency executives.

Many of the donations were made as officials sought election for the first time or reelection to posts as Los Angeles City Council members or county supervisors, offices that automatically placed them on the EIDC board.

Former City Council member and current Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg received the most--$21,750. Goldberg, whose district included Hollywood, received all but $3,000 while on the City Council, mostly while campaigning for her Assembly seat. She received an additional $500 from EIDC top executives.

State Sen. Richard Alarcon (D-Sylmar) received $20,000 in donations from the EIDC, most of which came after he left the City Council for the Legislature.

Other City Council members who have received campaign contributions from the EIDC or its top executives include Alex Padilla, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Hal Bernson, Cindy Miscikowski and Nate Holden.

Council members who got contributions while making successful initial runs for a City Council post were Nick Pacheco, Tom LaBonge, Jan Perry, Janice Hahn, Eric Garcetti, Dennis Zine and Wendy Greuel. Garcetti, Greuel, Perry, Pacheco and Zine got more after they took office.

Former council members who received money from the EIDC or its top executives while on the EIDC board were Rudy Svorinich, Mike Hernandez, Richard Alatorre, Laura Chick, John Ferraro and Joel Wachs.

County Supervisors Yvonne Brathwaite Burke and Mike Antonovich also got donations, as did former Mayor Richard Riordan, whose post also placed him on the EIDC board.

Mayor James K. Hahn got money from the agency and its top executives during his race.
