12 North Koreans Fail in Embassy Asylum Bid
A dozen North Korean asylum seekers tried to get into the Ecuadorean Embassy in Beijing but were stopped by guards, witnesses and an embassy employee said.
Eight were detained, while four escaped after confrontations with Chinese police, South Korean reporters who saw the incident said.
The group tried to scale the embassy fence. Two made it over the fence but were captured anyway.
Meanwhile, a refugee activist said 11 North Koreans and a South Korean man who was helping them were detained Saturday at a train station in the northeastern Chinese city of Changchun.
