After 2,400 Miles, Tired Swimmer Has Wishes

From Times Wire Reports

A day after completing a 68-day, 2,400-mile swim down the Mississippi River from its source, Martin Strel said he needs a rest, a massage and a date.

Strel, a Slovenian who swam 12 hours a day from Lake Itasca, Minn., to the Gulf of Mexico, said in New Orleans that he was tired.

With the Mississippi trip, which began on July 4, Strel eclipsed his world record for the longest swim, set in 2000 when he swam all 1,866 miles of Europe’s Danube River.

“I felt lucky when we got to the Gulf of Mexico. I felt very lucky to finish,” Strel said.
