Tropical Storm Cuts Power to Barrier Island

Tropical Storm Gustav grazed the Outer Banks, knocking out power on one of the barrier islands off Cape Hatteras and hurling intermittent rain with 65 mph gusts.
Schools were closed in Dare and Currituck counties, but primary elections went ahead as scheduled.
A tropical storm warning was in effect from Surf City north to Parramore Island, Va.
Gustav is the seventh named storm of the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1 and ends Nov. 30. None has become a hurricane.
