South Koreans Arrive for Family Reunions
A ferry full of South Koreans arrived in North Korea for tearful reunions with relatives they last saw half a century ago, kicking off a weekend that will also include rare North-South military talks.
One hundred people from each of the two states met long-lost kin at the Mt. Kumgang resort.
South Korean television showed people--many in their 60s--prostrating themselves before their octogenarian parents. The reunions of southerners chosen by lottery and northerners screened by their government are the second such meetings this year and the fifth since South Korean President Kim Dae Jung met the North’s leader, Kim Jong Il, two years ago.
