From Times Wire Reports
Chicago resident Thomas Christerson, 71, celebrated the first anniversary of his new heart. He is the only surviving patient of seven who have received the self-contained artificial AbioCor heart.
The device, 20 years in development by Abiomed Inc. of Danvers, Mass., gave Christerson a new lease on life and a place in history.
Christerson looked healthy and was in good spirits as he celebrated at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky., where he spent months recovering after the procedure.
