Re “Barry White Sings Out for His Old Neighborhood,” Sept. 11: Your headline might as well have read: “Barry White Raises Voice Against Children.” How bringing a new high school to a long-underserved neighborhood and revitalizing a neglected park will “destroy” a community is beyond the comprehension of this public school graduate.

White and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) are amplifying the voices of a few fearful people who can’t imagine positive change. Isn’t it more befitting of role models and leaders to strengthen our vision of what we can become instead of reinforcing White’s bittersweet memories and rallying against the future of our children?
