From Times Wire Reports

Police in Peru set fire to more than four tons of illegal drugs seized since May across the country, the world’s No. 2 cocaine producer.

The narcotics, which included 4,870 pounds of cocaine as well as cocaine paste, marijuana, heroin and poppies used to make drugs, were worth $57 million on the U.S. market and $86 million on the streets of Europe, police said.

Interior Minister Gino Costa said police also had captured 168 people smuggling drugs at the airport in Lima, the capital. Officials say most of those smugglers seek to take drugs to Chile, Spain, Argentina, the Netherlands and the U.S.
