76 Maoist Rebels Die in Clashes, Military Says
Nepal’s army killed 76 Maoist rebels in separate attacks on guerrilla hide-outs in the Himalayan kingdom, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.
Fifty-five rebels fighting for a one-party communist republic were killed Sunday in battles in Rukum, in western Nepal. Fourteen others were gunned down in neighboring Rolpa the same day, spokesman Shiv Kumar Thapa said.
Seven others reportedly were killed in the kingdom’s east. There was no independent confirmation of the government figures.
