Palestinian Nonviolence Has a Long History

Thank you for reporting the nonviolent resistance of the Palestinians in Ramallah and other West Bank towns this week (“Palestinians Raise Nonviolent Ruckus Over Israel’s Moves,” Sept. 25). This dimension of Palestinian resistance has long gone underreported, even though it has a long history. While most Palestinians, when asked, support violent resistance, most of the resistance has been nonviolent.
Furthermore, pacifist groups such as the Palestinian Center for Rapprochement Between Peoples in Beit Sahour, the Palestinian Center for Nonviolence in Hebron and the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem have been tirelessly and courageously leading nonviolent, direct actions against the occupation for years.
