Advocates of Animal Rights Aren’t Selfless

Share

Re “I’ll Have the Burger Deluxe, With a Side of Guilt,” Sept. 5:

Animal rights are as illusory as human rights. Rights don’t exist, and even if they did they would not be absolute because they are always relative to those who created them.

Furthermore, we create rights for people other than ourselves not merely to reciprocate but also so we don’t have to worry about our own “rights” being violated.

Animal rights advocates take this a step further: They create rights for animals so that their (the advocates’) self-esteem is not violated. This is neither right nor wrong but undeniably true. What bunny hugger doesn’t feel better about himself or herself for it? These people are just as selfish as the carnivorous biotyrants; it just shows differently.
