Let Consumer Market Drive Need for Digital

Whatever happened to the market economy? Instead of telling the broadcasters what kind of signal to transmit and telling consumers what kind of TV they must buy, why can’t the government let the consumers decide [“Digital TV Switch Pushed,” Sept. 20]?

If the government wants to reclaim analog TV spectrum, they should do something to make digital TV affordable and user-friendly (i.e. recordable), rather than trying to cram this ill-conceived scheme down our throats.
