Placing a Bet Against Casinos in Los Angeles
Re “Indian Groups See L.A. as Likely Spot for a Casino -- Maybe Two,” April 9: One important fact was left out of Steve Lopez’s column about Indian tribal litigation. The insurgent faction of the Tongva tribe did not file a lawsuit against the Tongva tribe until after the tribe rejected a gambling contract from the insurgents’ attorney, Jonathan Stein. The tribe is being sued because it does not want a casino in Los Angeles.

Lopez’s column should “put the fire” under every Los Angeles voter to actively begin saying: No casinos in Los Angeles. Casinos destroy a city’s character. An Indian casino would contribute nothing to Los Angeles.
