Making Decisions Based on Lessons Learned

Share

A golden opportunity exists right now to make decisions with foresight -- the proposed Honeyman Ranch project in San Juan Capistrano being a prime example. As a resident of Marbella, I know all too well what it is like to live in a high-density community. Previous City Council members lacked foresight in allowing a developer to squeeze the maximum into the minimum, thus creating a community lacking space for children to play as well as creating hazardous conditions for walkers and bikers by failure to provide adequate sidewalks. How much better the quality of life would be if fewer, larger lots had been mandated.

Hindsight is indeed 20/20. Hopefully San Juan Capistrano will not repeat prior mistakes, such as fast-food alley. We might use Laguna Beach as an outstanding example of foresight. To the credit of the Lagunans, it took 10 years to complete the Treasure Island-Montage project because they stood fast to the motto “You don’t change Laguna, Laguna changes you.”
