Smith’s Influence Came From Trust, Affection

Share

This week we celebrated the life of Randy Smith and the hundreds of people attending his memorial is testimony to the friendships he built in his personal and professional lives.

Yes, Randy was probably the best and most influential lobbyist in the county. That accomplishment was the byproduct of his greatest attribute -- generosity. Randy was the conduit and glue of countless relationships throughout the state. He freely shared his network to help people find jobs, get important changes made to government operations, and sometimes just to help out. Randy did all these things because he was a good guy and wanted what was right above what paid the bills. He never put his financial interests above what was good for the community, what made good business sense or what would help a friend.

That was the source of Randy’s influence -- trust and affection.

Government life will go on without Randy. Contracts will be awarded and legislation will be enacted. The gap that will be felt will be the loss of Randy’s ability to help people see the larger picture, cut through the animosity and game playing, and work together on a very human and kind manner. Randy was a large man in many ways.
