From Times Wire Reports

Indonesian authorities have arrested more than 60 people in the restive Molucca Islands for trying to celebrate a failed independence bid, police said.

Most of those arrested were accused of trying to raise the banned flag of the would-be Republic of South Molucca, said a police officer, who refused to give his name.

The Moluccas were the scene of intense fighting between Muslims and Christians in which more than 9,000 people died from 1999 to 2001. The two sides signed a peace pact last year.
