Security Measure to Some, Atrocity to Others

Share

Michael Ramirez has again misrepresented the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with his deplorable cartoon depicting Israel’s security wall being constructed in the “living room” of a Palestinian family (Commentary, Aug. 2). The fence is a security measure that will prevent terrorists from continuing their murder of innocent men, women and children. It would not be necessary if Yasser Arafat would put an end to aiding and abetting members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah. Ramirez should portray the real issue of Palestinians being held hostage by Arafat and terrorist organizations that desire one thing only: the destruction of Israel.

Ramirez’s brilliant cartoon truly captured the essence of this so-called “security wall.” The wall is but one of the many atrocities Israel is committing in the occupied territories, shamefully, using our tax dollars. I am willing to go as far as agreeing with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that a good fence makes for good neighbors. The real question, however: What will a very bad fence, which this one is, do to good neighbors?
