From Times Wire Reports

China summoned the Japanese ambassador to object about drums of World War II-era poison gas that sickened dozens of people after the barrels surfaced in a northeastern city last week, China’s government said.

Tokyo, meanwhile, said an investigation determined that the drums were abandoned by the Japanese army after World War II.

It promised to dispose of the chemicals quickly and released a statement expressing sympathy for the victims.
