2000 Angelo Gaja Ca’ Marcanda Magari

Share

Angelo Gaja, the undisputed king of Barbaresco, has a secret passion. It’s for his new estate in Bolgheri off the coast of Tuscany south of Livorno. In this up-and-coming area best known for the legendary Sassicaia, where tradition doesn’t dictate a thing, Gaja has built Ca’ Marcanda, his modern state-of-the-art winery. The 2000 Ca’ Marcanda Magari is a blend of 50% Merlot with 25% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Luscious and full-bodied, this first release has an intricate nose of spice, coffee and dark berries. Layers of ripe, concentrated fruit are balanced with ripe round tannins and a finish that just won’t quit. A brilliant debut from this consummate perfectionist.
