Tupac Shakur releases due in the fall

Fall will bring Tupac Shakur fans a bounty of posthumous new releases from the rapper.

On Oct. 7 comes “Death Row Presents 2Pac Nu-Mixx Klazzics,” in which 10 of Shakur’s previous recordings are remixed by Tha Row Hitters, the Death Row label’s production team. The remixes have the blessing of Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, who has overseen releases of his music since he was slain in 1996.

“They were very respectful and mindful” in assembling the remixes, one of her lawyers said Friday.

Also due in October is the soundtrack for “Tupac: Resurrection,” a documentary film scheduled to open nationally Nov. 14. The album (on Amaru/Interscope, a partnership between Afeni Shakur and the major label Interscope) will have two or three previously unreleased tracks and there also will be a companion book, due to be published in mid-October.

A full album of unreleased Shakur material is slated for a December 2004 release, Afeni Shakur’s lawyer said.

Shakur’s posthumous releases have sold as well or better than those issued when he was alive. Most have made the Top 10, and they have sold more than 14 million copies in all, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
