It is understandable why Calendar editors might be seduced by a story about celebrity hot-topic Ashton Kutcher (“You Can Call Him Chris,” Aug. 10). What is not so understandable is why writer Dana Kennedy peppered the piece with faux insights that betrayed a lack of understanding of the industry. The inclusion of “insider tidbits” -- such as the fact that Kutcher’s publicists tried to postpone the story -- was both self-serving and lame. It doesn’t illuminate anything unique about Kutcher’s psychology. One suspects that Kennedy knows this full well but included it anyway in an attempt to give the slight story an angle it didn’t deserve.
