Politician Sentenced in Electoral Fraud Case
Pauline Hanson, a right-wing firebrand known for her anti-immigration stance, was sentenced to three years in jail for fraudulently setting up her One Nation political party and illegally using electoral funds.
Hanson and another party official, David Ettridge, pleaded not guilty to fraudulently registering One Nation in Queensland state in 1997 and to obtaining almost $330,000 in electoral funds to pay for her campaign in the 1998 Queensland election. Her lawyer said she would appeal. It was not immediately known if Ettridge would.
