17-Year-Old Sentenced to 180 Years for 3 Murders

A 17-year-old youth was sentenced to 180 years in prison for the murders of three Salinas teenagers, a crime the judge compared with Chicago’s infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Citing an epidemic of violence in Salinas that can be combated only with harsh measures, Superior Court Judge Gary Meyer on Wednesday refused to sentence Jaime Hernandez as a juvenile.
Hernandez was convicted in June in the gang-related shootings of Jaime Noria and Andres Garcia, both 17, and Omar Antonio Gamboa, 18, as the three friends sat in a car listening to music on Sept. 1, 2002.
