Palestinian Guilty in Soldiers’ Deaths
An Israeli military court convicted a Palestinian police officer in the brutal killing of two Israeli soldiers at a West Bank police station, the army said. Widely broadcast footage of a jubilant Palestinian mob on Oct. 12, 2000, pounding the soldiers’ mangled bodies, one of which was thrown from a station window, horrified Israelis and hardened attitudes toward Palestinians.
Raed Sheikh, 29, was charged with willfully causing the death of Vadim Norjitz and Yossi Avrahami, the Israeli reservists who were beaten and stabbed to death in Ramallah.
