Question of taste

RE “At 75, Still Looking Trim,” by Michael Quintanilla, Aug. 27: At 40 and still somewhat of an athlete, I’ve had a Speedo on for more hours of my life than probably anything but a pair of jeans. But the question of protocol is greater now. Why are Americans so uptight about men wearing the equivalent of a woman’s two-piece on the beach? These ridiculous knee-length rear-end droopers don’t cover the possible paunch, they only cover what is consistently men’s best asset: legs.

If the concern is to cover up the unsightly, then men with body fat greater than 20% should wear Speedo T-shirts with their Speedo racers and show off their cellulite-free legs. If the concern is puritanism, then California ain’t what it used to be.
