Man Dies After Alleged Jail Beating

A 32-year-old man allegedly beaten by two cellmates at the Men’s Central Jail has died of his wounds, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Steven Prendergast of Los Angeles was taken to County-USC Medical Center after deputies found him bleeding from a head wound at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s Sgt. Diane Hecht said. He died about 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Two cellmates, ages 20 and 21, will be charged with murder, Hecht said.
