Thousands Fill Streets to Mourn Ex-Leader

Thousands of Azerbaijanis thronged the streets of Baku, the capital, to honor former President Heydar A. Aliyev, 80, whose body was flown home to lie in state before a funeral today.
Ilham Aliyev followed his father into power, taking over in a disputed election in October. On Sunday, he walked behind his father’s flag-draped coffin as it was carried from the plane. Mourners lined the hearse’s route to the city’s main mosque.
