Broad Beach beauty

Times Staff Writer

This house is one of 108 along Broad Beach, a Malibu community where weekend retreats for business leaders and celebrities are bigger and fancier than most primary residences.

The neighborhood has frequently been the site of disputes between residents’ security guards and beachgoers seeking public access to the dry sand, which the community considers private property.

About this house: Actress Merle Oberon owned the property in the 1940s, and the house, designed by Ted Grenzbach, was built later, in 1981. It is owned by Gordon and Adele Binder. He is a venture capitalist and former chief executive of Amgen Inc., a pharmaceutical company. The house is not their main residence.
