From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Scientists have identified specific areas of the brain that perceive different colors.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Houston mapped blood flow in monkey brains while showing the animals colors. They reported in the journal Nature that blood flow increased in brain regions called “thin stripes.” Different parts of the stripes were active depending on the color shown. The scientists said color perception likely works similarly in humans. Understanding the process could help in developing devices for the blind.
