Mammal Sperm Cells Use Heat to Find Eggs

Mammalian sperm cells use heat to find their way to an egg, much as heat-sensing missiles seek out their targets.

Eggs use chemical signals to lure sperm, but this alone cannot account for the speed of fertilization. Now scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel report in the journal Nature Medicine that sperm move toward heat.
