Ex-Jailer Pleads Guilty in Beating Death
A former deputy jailer pleaded guilty in Covington to assaulting an inmate who died of his injuries nearly a month later.
Robert Raymond Price, 36, admitted to the March 17, 2002, beating in a court appearance. In a soft voice, Price told U.S. District Judge David Bunning that he struck the inmate, Chad Boggess of Charleston, W.Va., several times with a baton. Boggess died April 11.
Bunning called Price’s actions “horrendous” and set sentencing for May 21. Price, who remains free on bond, could be sentenced to up to 6 1/2 years in prison.
