Two heavily promoted crime series both opened to solid results Sunday, as ABC’s “Dragnet” revival premiered against NBC’s debut of “Kingpin.”

Preliminary rating estimates indicate that “Dragnet,” starring Ed O’Neill, averaged 13.2 million viewers -- exceeding “The Practice’s” average at 10 p.m. Sundays this season -- while “Kingpin,” which focuses on a drug cartel, drew 12.5 million viewers and similarly improved on NBC’s performance in that hour with “Boomtown.”

NBC is running new episodes of “Kingpin” both Sundays and Tuesdays.
