Emperor Goes Home After Prostate Surgery
From Times Wire Reports
Japan’s Emperor Akihito was released from the hospital three weeks after an operation to remove his prostate gland.
Akihito, 69, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December. Surgeons said at the time of the operation that there were no signs the cancer had spread.
Akihito, who has been keen to bring the monarchy closer to the people, is the first Japanese emperor to undergo surgery at a public hospital. In another break with tradition, he has kept the public informed about his health.
