Opposition Leader Is New Prime Minister

Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo installed an opposition leader as prime minister, accepting the first part of a peace plan. But rebel leaders threatened a return to civil war unless there are further moves toward a coalition government.
Ghanaian President John Kufuor escorted the opposition leader, Seydou Diarra, to the Ivorian capital, Yamoussoukro, and officiated at the swearing-in. Diarra is a Muslim from Ivory Coast’s rebel-controlled north.
