‘Town Hall’ Meeting on Bush Tax Plan

The Bush administration’s public relations offensive to build support for its $695-billion tax plan will see the Treasury and Commerce department secretaries take to the airwaves Tuesday evening.
A Treasury Department spokesman said Treasury Secretary John Snow and Commerce Secretary Don Evans will host an hourlong “town hall” meeting with a Washington audience. The event is to be broadcast in prime time on cable finance channel CNBC.
The show comes as both secretaries return from trips to highlight the program, whose centerpiece is the end of double taxation of corporate dividends.
Snow, in his second week on the job as Treasury secretary, visited Detroit and Philadelphia. Evans visited Atlanta on Tuesday to highlight the program’s small-business provisions.
