Prison Chief Quits, Aide Suspended in 3 Deaths
From Times Wire Reports
The head of an Athens women’s prison resigned and a senior warden was suspended after drugs and alcohol at a New Year’s Eve party killed three inmates and hospitalized two others, the Justice Department said.
It said the warden in charge the day of the party was disciplined for not stopping the items from entering the facility. The victims lapsed into comas from the mixture of drugs and alcohol.
Police said seven people were charged with smuggling heroin, anti-depressant pills and alcohol into the prison.
