3 Maoist Rebels Killed After Blast, Police Say
From Times Wire Reports
Indian police said they killed three Maoist rebels in a gunfight, hours after a land mine explosion blamed on the insurgents left three police officers dead.
The shootout and the blast took place in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh state, about 110 miles east of Hyderabad, the state capital.
Police blamed the land mine explosion on Maoist rebels of the People’s War Group, who often attack rich landowners, saying they exploit landless farm workers.
