From Times Staff and Wire Reports

El Nino, which has brought drought and storms to many parts of the world since May, has more bad weather in store for tropical Pacific areas before it starts to fade around midyear, scientists from the World Meteorological Organization said.

Now approaching its “mature stages,” El Nino has warmed ocean surface temperatures across much of the central equatorial Pacific by 3 to 4.5 degrees. Recent weather consistent with a continuing El Nino event included dry conditions over Indonesia and Australia and rain in areas of North and South America.
