Nike Is Attempting to Run From the Truth

Corporations are claiming the 1st Amendment gives them the right to deceive the public (“Justices to Hear Nike Free-Speech Claim,” Jan. 11).
Nike Inc. will argue before the Supreme Court that its campaign to hide the truth about Third World sweatshops is not deceptive advertising aimed at consumers who care about human rights but politically protected free speech.
If it prevails, will tobacco companies be allowed to tout the health benefits of cigarettes?
