Poultry Producers to Limit Sales in Mexico

The Mexican government and U.S. poultry producers, including Tyson Foods Inc. and Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., reached a compromise limiting sales of chicken leg quarters rather than blocking them.

Under the agreement, U.S. producers will pay duties of 99% on shipments to Mexico in excess of 50,000 tons a year.

Mexican farmers have been protesting reduction of barriers to food imports starting this year under the North American Free Trade Agreement. The compromise aims to forestall Mexican legal moves to stop imports from the U.S.
