Italy and Germany’s Diplomatic Feud Settled
From Times Wire Reports
Germany declared its diplomatic dispute with Italy over, saying Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had expressed “regret” for likening German lawmaker Martin Schulz to a Nazi prison guard. Berlusconi concurred but said he regretted merely that his comments were misunderstood.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder had demanded an official apology, but neither Schroeder nor Berlusconi used the word “apology” in public.
